KL Rahul Speaks On Being Appointed As Vice-Captain

Opening batsman and vice-captain of Indian team KL Rahul disclosed that he thought his luck for playing in whites for India again had died.

Talking straight to teammate Mayank Agarwal on BCCI.tv, Rahul stated that around “six-seven months or a year ago” he never really felt that he would get an opportunity to represent India in the red-ball format of the game ever. Now, not only does Rahul have a possibility to fix the opening place, but he has been appointed as the deputy to skipper Virat Kohli for the South Africa Tests after regular vice-captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the series due to an injury.

The striking right-hand batsman told, around a year back, he was not even sure if he would ever represent India in Test cricket again.

“Before 6-7 months or a year ago, I never thought I would get to play Test cricket again. Things changed quickly and I am very happy and grateful for such a huge responsibility is given to me as vice-captain for this tour. I am looking forward to giving my best,” said KL Rahul.

Rahul had made his Test debut in a Boxing Day Test against Australia back in 2014 and did not do good. Later he was dropped from the Test after failing to perform.

“I have bitter-sweet memories from Boxing Day. I debuted on a Boxing Day Test in Australia, but that did not go well. I lost my position again. I felt that’s the end for me. I think I have become more balanced in my approach to the game. I have changed a lot from how I used to play in 2014 when I made my debut and in 2018,” said Rahul.
