How Will Ferran Torres Fit In Barcelona
After almost every reliable source in Spain has confirmed that Barcelona have agreed to a fee worth an initial 55 million euros ($62 million, £47 million) for Manchester City forward Ferran Torres, according to reports in Spain and England on Wednesday. The Spanish international, 22, joined City from Valencia for a fee of just over £20 million in August 2020.
Torres has scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for the English champions as City won the Premier League, League Cup and reached the final of the Champions League during his only full season in Manchester. But his second season at City has been disrupted by a fractured foot that has kept him out since October.
Since his arrival at Camp Nou, the newly appointed Barca manager Xavi Hernandez has personally requested the signing of Torres from MAN city. The forward is rated highly by the manager and could play a vital role in Barcelona’s success.
How Does Ferran Fits In The System
Torres can play as a winger on either side or number 9, although he grew up mostly playing out wide. He is right-footed but adept at using his left as well, meaning he can be deployed as a classic or inverted winger.
His versatility is one of his standout attributes and is undoubtedly part of why Barcelona targetted him. In fact, across his 43 appearances with Manchester City, 18 of them have come as a center-forward, with the rest divided amongst left and right-wing. With La Roja, he was most recently featured as a striker against Italy in the Nations League semi-final, where he scored a wonderful goal.
Xavi will have many options as the other two forwards Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele are versatile players too. Fati can play as No 9 and as a winger, Dembele can play on either side the trio could create a lot of trouble for the opposition.
