KL Rahul Reflects on Overcoming Injuries, Doubts, & Mentoring Jaiswal
Ishan Kishan is the most expensive player in the IPL Auction for 2022.
On Day 1 of the auction, Mumbai Indians bought back young wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan for Rs 15.25 crore, making him the second most expensive Indian player behind Yuvraj Singh. Kishan’s base price of Rs 2 crore was more than seven times his selling price. Ishan Kishan was not retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL mega auction, instead opting to keep Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav.
Mumbai had kept out of the auction buying process for the first three rounds. Mumbai Indians began bidding at his basic price of Rs 2 crore, and then Punjab Kings joined the bidding battle.
Gujarat Titans entered the bidding at Rs 8 crore, but Mumbai continued to counter with a reply even as Punjab dropped out. Gujarat Titans surpassed the Rs 10.50 crore level, and Mumbai increased it to Rs 10.75 crore after a lengthy discussion.
Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the bidding at 13 crores, while Gujarat withdrew and just Mumbai remained. With a bid of Rs 15.25 crores, Mumbai beat out stiff opposition from Gujarat and Hyderabad to reclaim Ishan.
Ishan Kishan was one of the most talked-about players in the lead-up to the auction, since the 23-year-old had declined offers from both the new IPL clubs, the Gujarat Titans, and the Lucknow Super Giants. Ishan received bids from both new teams after being released by the Mumbai Indians. Ishan is thought to have expected a bigger income by being part of the auction instead.
Mumbai Indians never gave up the bidding war and were able to capture the young dynamite wicketkeeper.
