Notably, IPL franchises made significant purchases in preparation for the 2023 season, and expensive purchases were made in the Kochi auction. On December 23, there was a mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
There were 405 players advertised for sale in total, but only 80 + were able to find a team at the auction.

Following the 2023 IPL mini auction, the following purchases were the most expensive in league history:
- When Punjab Kings spent up to Rs 18.5 crore to bring Curran back to his IPL debut squad, he became the most expensive player ever signed in the history of these auctions.
In this auction, a number of the best cricket players in the world went up for bid, including the left-arm quick and aggressive middle-order batter.
In the T20 World Cup, Curran won Player of the Tournament after his abilities as a “death bowler” shutting down rival batters in the final overs made him a lethal weapon for England.

The star Sam Curran was the reason behind England bagging the world cup trophy.
- At the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday, Mumbai purchased Cameron Green for Rs 17.50 crore, making him the second most expensive player in the league.
The all-rounder was up for grabs from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals as well, but the five-time winner ultimately signed the 23-year-old.
Australia’s Green got his T20I debut in April 2022. Green has two 50+ scores and a strike of 173.75 in eight games. Both fifty-plus scores—61 off 30 balls and 52 off 21 deliveries—came against India in November 2022.
- In the IPL Auction for 2023, Chennai Super Kings acquired Ben Stokes. He and Chris Morris of South Africa equaled the third-most expensive signing in IPL history. At the MCG,
Stokes scored an undefeated 52 runs to lead the Three Lions to triumph over Pakistan in the championship match. In the competition, the right-arm medium pacer took six wickets and had a 6.79 economy.

- Mayank Agarwal becomes the the only Indian player who is most an expensive purchase – Rs 8.25 Crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
- Shivam Mavi is followed by Agarwal for Rs 6 Crore (Gujarat Titans)
- Jason Holder for Rs 5.75 Crore (Rajasthan Royals)
- Mukesh Kumar purchsed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 5.5 Crore and Lastly,
- Heinrich Klassen for an amount of Rs 5.25 Crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
What happens to other players?
At the auction, a number of players including Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Jimmy Neesham, and Jason Roy were not purchased.
Going into the auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad held the largest balance, while Kolkata Knight Riders had the smallest balance.
