FIH Men’s World Cup : Trophy returns to Odisha following a tour
FIH Men’s World Cup : The renowned trophy for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela returned to Odisha on Sunday after a successful national tour. Over the course of the following three weeks, the trophy will tour all 30 districts of Odisha.
The beautiful trophy tour got under way on December 5 in Bhubaneswar when Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave the trophy to Padma Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India. Over the last three weeks, the trophy travelled to 13 states and one Union Territory, including the nation’s capital, New Delhi.
Before arriving back in Bhubaneswar on December 25, the trophy travelled via West Bengal, Manipur, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh. Tusharkanti Behera, Dilip Tirkey, and Sulochana Das, the mayor of Bhubaneswar, were there to accept the prize.
Throughout the whole national tour, the trophy’s unveiling at each place drew a sizable crowd of supporters. Legendary hockey players from India as well as the appropriate state ministers attended the august events.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting, attended the event in the nation’s capital and attended to wish the Indian men’s hockey team luck at the FIH Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, according to a statement from Hockey India on Sunday.
Dr Dilip Tirkey, Hockey India President, said,
“We are delighted with the tremendous response that we have received for the trophy tour. Across each state, we honoured our legends of the sport who were thrilled to be a part of the campaign. We express our deepest gratitude to them for their participation.”
On January 13, 2022, the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela will start. In Pool D with Spain, England, and Wales, the hosts India will begin their tournament against Spain on January 13.
The other 15 teams playing in the event are the hosts India, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand, England, France, Korea, Malaysia, Spain, South Africa, Japan, Chile, and Wales.
