IPL 2023 Auction : The reason behind Evin Lewis’ absence
IPL 2023 Auction : Evin Lewis, a brash top-order batter, wasn’t on the list, and the 30-year-old said in an exclusive interview with a news channel that he was taking a little break.
For the forthcoming IPL mini-auction in Kochi, which will take place on December 23 and include 405 participants, several notable players will be available for bid when the action starts at 2:30 PM IST. There were several West Indies players that signed up for the auction, but one was conspicuously absent from the 20-person shortlist.
Lewis said,
“I wish everyone all the best for the auction. I am actually taking bit of a break from that cricket until I get back to where I need to be. So yeah,”
Caribbean players have dominated the league throughout the years, and players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard have become well-known figures in India thanks to their prowess with both the bat and the ball. Lewis was contacted before to the mini-auction since every franchise wants to include a Caribbean flavour in the mix, especially in the shortest format.
His tale with the Lucknow Super Giants :
The Indian Premier League’s 66th game saw 418 runs scored throughout the course of the contest. Quinton de Kock of the Lucknow Super Giants led his team to 210/0 in 20 overs with a 70-ball 140, leaving KKR with a steep hill to climb if they were to push for playoff status.
Although the ascent didn’t get off to a strong start, the middle order of Nitish Rana, Sam Billings, and Shreyas Iyer, together with Rinku Singh’s 15-ball 40 in the final few overs, caused concern in the LSG camp. Even though the odds were still overwhelmingly in favour of LSG and Rinku needed 21 from his final six balls, he was a man on a mission.
Marcus Stoinis was destroyed by him for 4, 6, and 6 off the opening three balls, which left him needing just 5 off 3 to win. The following ball brought in a couple more runs, bringing the total down to only 3 of 2.
LSG and one specific player will never forget what happened on the fifth ball, but the opposing camp cannot say the same. Lewis, who was rushing from the point area, caught what ended up being the “TATA IPL Catch of the Season” after Rinku flubbed a huge drive over cover. LSG secured a playoff position after shattering KKR’s aspirations with a one-handed blinder.
Lewis enjoyed thinking about it, but there wasn’t much to discuss right away. The combative top-order hitter, who was purchased at the auction for a base price of Rs 2 crore, was given little opportunities to use the bat for the team. He played in six games this season, received five at-bats, and finished with just 73 runs. One innings produced 55 of those.
Lewis concluded,
“I was probably expecting a little more opportunities, I didn’t get that. I think the franchise Lucknow is actually a good franchise. Good coaching staff and a good bunch of players, and everyone trying to keep a good family base together. My experience was largely good and I enjoyed to be honest,”
