IND vs SL: Ashwin and Jadeja shine as India complete innings win against Sri Lanka
The Indian Cricket team has defeated Sri Lanka in the first Test match by massive innings and 222 runs. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the star man throughout the first test match as the player managed to score an unbeaten 175 on the 2nd day and followed his marvelous batting with an equally amazing bowling spell which saw him getting a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the 3rd day. Ravichandran Ashwin on the other hand, surpassed Kapil Dev’s record to become the 2nd highest Indian wicket-taker in Test cricket after taking his 435th wicket in the second innings.
The game was seen to go into the hands of the Indian team quite early on in the match when the Indians put up 357 on the first day after which Ravindra Jadeja started to have his share of fun from the bat as he batted through the depleted Sri Lankan bowling attack. The Sri Lankan batsmen already had a mammoth task ahead of them to reach India’s total of 574.
It was Jadeja who did not let any batsman get their way and managed to pick five wickets in the innings as Sri Lanka got bowled out for just 174. Captain Rohit Sharma then decided to ask the Lankans to follow on as they were still 400 runs behind.
It was Ravichandran Ashwin’s turn to achieve some milestones as the spinner got himself three wickets taking him to a total of 435 wickets which made him the 2nd highest wicket-taker in Test cricket overtaking Kapil Dev as well. Ashwin achieved this feat in his 85th Test cricket match which is commendable as Kapil Dev managed the same in 131 games.
There were a lot of positives to be seen for India in the first Test match but the former Test World Cup runners-up have got to always try and improve these performance levels if they want to keep winning against high-quality opponents in the future as well.
