Ganguly gives verdict on Virat Kohli and Rohit’s poor form
BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly assures that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be back to their best before the T20 World Cup in October 2022. Virat and Rohit both had a dismal IPL 2022 campaign. On an individual level, both batsman’s form has dropped at a significant level, considering the fact that, the T20 World Cup is at the end of the year. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly shared his views on this matter.
Virat Kohli is having his worst IPL season in 14 years. In 13 games played this season, Kohli has scored 236 runs at an average of 19.67 and at a strike rate of 113.46. He has been dismissed twice this season on the first ball of the innings. He has scored a half-century and three ducks. The only time he has scored fewer runs than this is in the inaugural season of the IPL. RCB still has a game in hand, and it’s most likely that they will make it to the playoffs.

Rohit Sharma on the other hand is facing troubles of his own both at an individual level and as a captain too. Mumbai Indians like other seasons had a bad start to the campaign, but couldn’t turn the tide around this time. Mumbai Indians are out of the contention for playoffs. On an individual level, the skipper has scored a mere 218 runs in 12 matches at an average of 18.17 and at a strike rate of 125.29. He has been dismissed five times on single-digit scores and once on a duck. The hitman still hasn’t scored a half-century this term.
Given the circumstances, Sourav Ganguly spoke to the media and shared his views about how much experience they have. He looked pretty sure about their coming back to their best form, ahead of the Australia T20 World Cup in October 2022.
“I’m not worried at all about the form of Rohit or Virat. They are too good…real big players. The World Cup is far away and I am quite confident that they will be in top shape much before the tournament,” he said.
Team India is going to play four T20I matches against South Africa in June. This will be followed by tours to Ireland and England. Then they are slated to play 3 more home games against Australia.
Its highly probable that Virat Kohli along with other senior members of the squad will be rested against South Africa and Ireland.
“All the senior India players will get at least three and half weeks of complete rest. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh and Jasprit will all directly go to England for the ‘fifth Test’ following the white-ball series. We need all our key players to remain fresh for the England series,”
a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
