Aanchal Thakur Wins Bronze In FIS Skiing Competition
Indian ski athlete Aanchal Thakur has created history in the skiing championship held in Kolasin, Montenegro. Aanchal Thakur also became the first Indian ski athlete to win two medals in the International Ski Championship. Aanchal won bronze medal in FIS Alpine Ski Championship.
Prior to this, Aanchal Thakur had also won a medal in the International Ski Championship held in Turkey in 2018. After winning a medal in Montenegro as well, Aanchal is the first Indian ski athlete to win two different metals in two different tournaments.
Aanchal Thakur is no outsider to prevailing international winter sports awards. She has earlier won a bronze medal in the 2018 FIS Alpine 3200 Cup held in Turkey. She was the first Indian to triumph a medal in any winter sports tournament ever. So far, she has participated in 4 World Championships including her maiden one when she was 16 in 2013.
“The weather was very bad Wednesday and when I had a fall I had pain in my left thigh all day,” she told The Indian Express. “I had a good first run, but then I crashed. The weather was better on Thursday, and I thought about the first run I did earlier and just aimed to give my best.
“The lap time of 56.38 seconds gave me confidence in the conditions and I’m happy to have been able to win the second international medal of my career.”
