In a stunning display of cricketing prowess, the Zimbabwe Cricket Team secured a remarkable victory over Gambia, setting a new world record for the highest score in T20 internationals at 344 runs for just four wickets. This historic achievement occurred during an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier Group B match.
Following their explosive batting performance, Zimbabwe dismissed Gambia for only 54 runs, winning the match by an astounding margin of 290.
Sikandar Raza emerged as the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match award for his explosive innings of 133 runs off just 43 balls. He was well-supported by Tadiwanashe Marumani, who scored 62 runs from 19 balls, and Clive Madande, who contributed an unbeaten 53 runs off 17 deliveries.
Raza’s remarkable century came in just 33 balls, breaking Rohit Sharma’s record for the fastest T20I century by a player from a Test-playing nation. His innings included seven fours and an impressive 15 sixes.
On the other side, Gambia’s top scorer was Andre Jarju, who scored 12 runs off 12 balls, with Frank Campbell and Asim Ashraf adding only seven runs each. Zimbabwe’s bowlers also excelled, with Brandon Mavuta taking three wickets for just ten runs in 4 overs, while Richard Ngarava claimed three for 13 runs.
Zimbabwe’s monumental batting performance surpassed the previous record of 314 runs for 3 wickets set by Nepal against Mongolia during the Asian Games in 2023.
