Disappointed by team’s performance-Shreyas Iyer

India lost it’s fourth T20I against England at Bristol, England on Thursday. England won by 9 wickets after chasing the score of 159 in just 13.5 overs with the loss of just one wicket.

India gave a target of 159 in a total of 20 overs with the loss of 7 wickets. Only India Captain Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube were able to score above 20 runs. India’s youngest debutant only made 15 runs off 10 balls and got out early during powerplay.

The whole batting line collapsed except the two. Shivam scored 22 runs off 23 balls whereas India Captain Shreyas Iyer played an explosive and gritty knock. He smashed 80 runs off 49 balls, and was the only player to contribute to the team’s total.

India’s bowling line totally collapsed and Arshdeep was the only player who took a wicket in yesterday’s match. England was able to chase the target in just 13.5 overs. England Captain Harry Brook and Opener Phill salt played a dominant knock and their partnership led to their victory in the game.

Brook relentlessly scored a total of 79 runs off 35 balls whereas Salt smashed 59 runs off 42 balls. Their partnership and India’s poor bowling line up took away the match from team India’s hands.

He even said that it’s important that they learn quickly from their mistakes so that they can improve the team’s overall performance. He believes that there are quick learners in his team and he trust them that they will look back at their respective games and will improve themselves in order to perform fine in further upcoming matches.

Iyer was clearly not impressed by his team’s performance and found the score on Board as disappointing. The team felt shot on his execution and he even agreed with the fact that the bowling line totally collapsed.

While he was satisfied with his innings and the contribution he made personally to the team’s total, he believed that his efforts got wasted as they lost the game.

India lost two back-to-back series under his captaincy. This is the first time in India’s history that they had lost five matches in a row. Yesterday’s loss further increased the pressure on Iyer and has left him with more questions than answers.
