UEFA Champions League final to be held in Paris
Russia has been replaced by Paris as the venue for the UEFA Champions League final this year amidst rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Russia has been stripped off from hosting the champions league final which was supposed to be held at St. Petersburg. UEFA has taken away the hosting rights from the venue because of their recent invasion of Ukraine which has caused a lot of disturbance across the globe.
Paris has been selected as the new host of this year’s final which will take place at the Stade de France which has a capacity of 80,000 fans on 28th May. The decision had been taken earlier today by the UEFA executive committee
The governing body also stated it’s appreciation towards the French government and the organizing authorities who accepted the opportunity to host club football’s most prestigious tournament final on such short notice. They said “UEFA wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the French Republic President Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to have European club footballs most prestigious game moved to France at a time of unparalleled crisis”
UEFA have also said that they will fully support all the fellow professional footballers and their families that have unfortunately been stuck in Ukraine during this war crisis. The committee also issued the statement which said that the matches involving Ukraine and Russian clubs and their national teams will be played at neutral venues until any further notice.
It is still to be seen what comes out of this war situation as the world prays for the people in crisis at the moment.
