Travis Head Signs New Contract with Adelaide Strikers for BBL 2024-25 Season

Top-ranked T20I batter Travis Head has secured a new one-year contract with the Adelaide Strikers. Although the left-hander missed the entire 2023-24 season due to national team duties, his participation in the upcoming season remains uncertain due to Australia’s packed schedule.

Australia will face India in a high-profile five-match Test series at home. While the Strikers have three remaining games post-series, the availability of national players is still unclear, especially with Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka set for February.

Head’s retention strengthens the Strikers’ batting lineup, which already includes powerful hitters like Matt Short, Chris Lynn, Alex Carey, and England’s Ollie Pope. His signing completes the squad as the South Australian franchise aims for a successful BBL season.

Head expressed his excitement about rejoining the Strikers under new coach Tim Paine, stating, “I’m thrilled to sign for another year with the Strikers and can’t wait to get back amongst the group. I love pulling on the blue every chance I get and look forward to helping the boys go one step further after their fantastic late-season run to the finals last summer.”

Since their BBL championship win in 2017-18, the Strikers have made the playoffs in four of the last six seasons but have yet to reach the final again. Now the head coach, Paine, praised Head’s form, noting his incredible performances across all formats. “We understand ‘Trav’ has a busy international schedule, but we also know how much he loves playing for the Strikers. He’s been in exceptional form, as shown by his recent 154* off 129 balls in the ODI against England,” Paine said.

In 2024, Head has been phenomenal, scoring 539 runs from 15 innings with an impressive strike rate of 178.47, including four half-centuries. This marks the second consecutive year where Head has maintained a strike rate above 175. However, 2024 has seen him combine his aggressive style with consistency, making him a dominant force at the top of Australia’s order. His recent performances during Australia’s tours of Scotland and England, particularly in the powerplay, highlighted his unstoppable form.
