Get Ready for the Kho Kho World Cup 2025
The Kho Kho World Cup will debut at Thyagraj Stadium from January 13 to 19, 2025, showcasing this indigenous Indian sport globally. During the announcement ceremony, an exciting exhibition match occurred between Team Maharashtra and the Rest of India, where Team Maharashtra clinched a narrow victory, winning 26-24.
The official logo and tagline, #TheWorldGoesKho, were unveiled, highlighting the event’s significance. Twenty-four nations will compete in the tournament, featuring both men’s and women’s teams battling for the prestigious title.
Sudhanshu Mittal, president of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), expressed pride in bringing this traditional sport to an international audience. “Kho Kho is a sport rooted in our culture. Thanks to the federation’s tireless efforts, we are delighted to elevate it to the global stage,” he stated.
Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse also attended the ceremony. She stressed the historical significance of Kho Kho, which has been part of Indian culture since the Mahabharata. She noted that hosting the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup aligns with the Indian government’s commitment to promoting indigenous sports.
“The KKFI deserves congratulations for their dedication in various fields, particularly in sports science, as this initiative will elevate the game to new heights,” she added. “We first introduced the sport to fans through the Ultimate Kho Kho League, and now it’s time to take it to the next level with the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup.”
