Tension Rises in Indian Dressing Room as Gambhir Lays Down the Law After MCG
An explosive report has revealed growing tension within the Indian cricket camp, with head coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly declaring “I’ve had enough” after India’s crushing defeat to Australia in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The report sheds light on the mounting discord between players and coaching staff as India prepares for the crucial fifth and final Test in Sydney. India must win the match to level the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The team’s loss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has escalated pressure, leaving the squad at a crossroads.
The report details a furious response from coach Gautam Gambhir following India’s dramatic collapse in the final session of the Melbourne Test. After India lost seven wickets, including key players, Gambhir reportedly vented his frustration in the dressing room.
“Bahut ho gaya (I’ve had enough),” Gambhir is said to have told his players. He expressed his dissatisfaction with players deviating from the game plan and playing recklessly in the name of the “natural game.” Gambhir, who had previously allowed the players some freedom to play their own way, made it clear that such behavior would no longer be tolerated.
He reportedly told the squad that for the past six months, they had played according to their own terms, but now, he would take charge and decide how they would play moving forward. Those who failed to adhere to this directive, Gambhir warned, would be shown the door.
Adding to the pressure is captain Rohit Sharma’s alarming form. With just 10 runs across his five innings in Australia, Rohit described his struggles as “disturbing.” The Indian captain admitted that his attempts to get back into form weren’t yielding the desired results, creating additional strain within the team.
The Indian Express report also suggested that Rohit Sharma may decide on his future following the tour. Rumors of leadership challenges have surfaced, with a few senior players reportedly speaking about stepping up to take on leadership roles. One such senior player is even said to have self-promoted as “Mr Fix-It,” expressing doubts about the younger players’ ability to lead the team effectively.
Tensions within the Indian camp extend beyond the coach-player relationship. The Indian Express report claims that Gambhir had pushed for the inclusion of veteran Cheteshwar Pujara in the Test squad, but the selectors rejected his request. This decision appears to have left a bitter taste with Gambhir, who reportedly continued to raise Pujara’s name even after India’s dominant victory in the Perth Test.
Additionally, the report mentions disagreements over team selections, such as the inclusion of Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar for the first Test. The lack of consensus on these decisions reflects the fractured atmosphere within the dressing room as India approaches the pivotal Sydney Test.
With the fifth Test against Australia fast approaching, India’s dressing room is reportedly far from unified. The Indian Express report highlights the internal conflicts and differing opinions on team selection, strategy, and leadership. As India looks to salvage the series and their hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, it remains to be seen whether the team can overcome these internal tensions and deliver a strong performance in Sydney.
