Sunil Gavaskar Critiques Gambhir, Praises Rohit’s “Gohit” Strategy
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has voiced his opinion regarding Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style, which has come under scrutiny due to its recent comparisons to Brendon McCullum’s aggressive batting approach, famously known as “Bazball.” Gavaskar pointed out that attributing this method to Gambhir, who has only been coaching for a couple of months, is excessive flattery. He noted that Gambhir’s batting style was never similar to McCullum’s, emphasizing that any credit for the Indian team’s performance should be directed toward captain Rohit Sharma.
Gavaskar commended Rohit’s cautious approach during the Kanpur Test, suggesting that instead of referring to specific strategies with terms like “this-ball” or “that-ball,” commentators should call it the “Gohit” approach after Rohit. He hoped more creative individuals would develop a catchy name for this strategy instead of relying on the already established term “Bazball.”
