Spain, Argentina Starts With Win In ATP Cup
Argentina and Spain started their campaigns with victories on the first day of the 16-team ATP Cup tournament on Saturday. Argentina registered a comfortable 3–0 win against Georgia while Spain beat Chile by the same margin. This team tournament is being played in two stadiums in Sydney.
World number 13 Diego Schwartzman beat Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-1, 6-2 in a singles match to give Argentina a decisive 2-0 lead. Earlier, Federico Delbonis defeated Alexandre Matrevelli 6-1, 6-2.
In the doubles match, Maximo González and Andrés Molteni beat Georgia pair of Saba Pertselje and Jura Kemalaje 6-1, 6-2 to clean sweep 3-0. In another match of the day, world number 20 Pablo Carreo Busta made a comeback from a break to beat Chile’s Alessandro Tabilo 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to give Spain the lead.
Roberto Batista Agut then secured Spain’s victory with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over world No. 17 Cristian Guérin of Chile. Alexandro Davidovich Focina and Pedro Martínez then beat Chile’s Tomas Barrios Vera and Tabilo 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-7 to ensure a cleansweep for Spain.
