Sourav Ganguly confirms Asia Cup 2022 will be held in the UAE
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has officially confirmed that Asia Cup 2022 will be held in the UAE from August 27. Sri Lanka Cricket have informed the Asian Cricket Council that they’re not in a position to host the Asia Cup.
Asia Cup 2022 will now be played in United Arab Emirates (UAE). BCCI President Sourav Ganguly gave this information after the Apex Council meeting held in Mumbai. Earlier this tournament was to be organized in Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup is to be held from August 27 to September 11 and will be played in the T20 format.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the board would not be in a position to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup T20 due to the economic and political crisis in the country. This statement of SLC came after the postponement of the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
Six teams are going to participate in the Asia Cup 2022 to be held from 27 August to 11 September. Sri Lanka, defending champions India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have already qualified for the tournament. At the same time, the sixth and final team will be decided after the qualifying tournament. The six-team qualifying tournament comprising Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and the UAE will begin on August 20.
