Simon Katich, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s assistant coach, has resigned.
Former Australia batter Simon Katich has resigned from SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) less than two months before the start of the season. According to a report in ‘The Australian,’ Katich opted to leave due to a dispute over how the team was being run, as well as his belief that the franchise ignored the pre-auction preparations. Previously, SunRisers Hyderabad was embroiled in a significant issue after sacking David Warner as captain and subsequently removing the batter from the playing XI.
Following the conclusion of the IPL auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad released a video on their social media channels featuring Katich explaining their decision to purchase South African internationals Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen.
Trevor Bayliss and Brad Haddin have also left their positions as coaches since last season. Tom Moody, a former Australian Test player and World Cup champion, was appointed head coach at SRH after serving as the club’s director of cricket. Moody was the one who hired Katich as an assistant coach.
Katich has previously coached with several IPL clubs. He has previously worked with both the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the T20 competition.
In the IPL 2021 season, Hyderabad finished last in the standings. This time around, the club undertook a drastic overhaul, bringing in a slew of new faces while permanently entrusting captaincy to Kane Williamson.
The franchise’s most expensive player during the auction was West Indies wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran. Romario Shepherd, T Natarajan, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Sean Abbott, Rahul Tripathi, and Glenn Phillips were among the franchise’s other purchases.
