RCB won’t be able to find better captain than Kohli – Harbhajan Singh

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh believes Virat Kohli will take over as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League in 2022 and stay for a few years. Harbhajan Singh identified several candidates for the RCB captaincy, but stated the previous finalists are unlikely to find anybody better than their former captain.

RCB kept up to three players ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. They kept Virat Kohli for Rs 15 crore, Glenn Maxwell for Rs 11 crore, and Mohammed Siraj for Rs 7 crore, but they are yet to choose their captain for the upcoming season.

RCB will enter the auction with a purse of Rs 57 crore and several captaincy hopefuls, but Harbhajan feels Kohli might be the ideal guy if he is prepared to perform the job again.

Notably, Kohli stepped down as RCB captain after the IPL 2021, bringing an end to his 8-year reign as captain without a trophy in the top T20 league. Kohli recently stepped down as T20 skipper, emphasising the importance of time management. He was also fired as India’s ODI captain, and he abruptly stood down as Test captain in January of this year.

“Shreyas Iyer, who is one of the ten marquee players for the IPL 2022 auction, might be a nice fit at RCB, but none like Kohli,” Harbhajan Singh stated. “Despite having numerous notable players, RCB has failed to win the title.” AB de Villiers will not play this season, and Kohli has stood down as captain, therefore they must choose a new leader right away. “Among Indians, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are two names who can lead the squad efficiently,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

“Shreyas has previously demonstrated his leadership abilities while guiding the Delhi franchise. But I believe Kohli will have to don the captain’s hat once more. RCB will not find a finer leader than him “Harbhajan said.

“RCB is forming a new team and will look for a strong leader. But is Kohli interested in taking up the role? It will be a difficult task, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he accepts to serve as captain for the next 1-2 years “He continued.

Harbhajan also stated that David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Eoin Morgan are viable overseas choices for RCB captaincy if the franchise choose to go that route. The IPL 2022 auction will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengal
