Novak Djokovic is the 2022 Wimbledon Men’s Champion
Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Nick Kyrgios of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the men’s singles title match at Wimbledon. This is Djokovic’s 21st Tennis Grand Slam title. With this win, Djokovic has overtaken Roger Federer.
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has won the Wimbledon men’s singles title. Top seed Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the final of the third Grand Slam of the year. In the first set, Kyrgios won with a brilliant serve. But he could not maintain the momentum. Djokovic won the second and third sets with ease. Kyrgios also gave a fight in the last set but it was not enough.
This is Novak Djokovic’s 7th Wimbledon and 21st Grand Slam titles. He has overtaken Roger Federer of Switzerland to win the most Grand Slam titles. Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles so far. Spain’s Rafael Nadal held the record for winning the most 22 titles. Earlier this year, all three players had 20-20 titles to their name. Nadal won the Australian and French Open. He was ruled out of the semi-finals at Wimbledon with an abdominal injury.
Roger Federer is also at number one in terms of winning the most Wimbledon titles. He has won eight Wimbledon titles so far. Kyrgios of Australia was playing his first Grand Slam final. He was given a walkover by Nadal due to injury in the semi-finals. Kyrgios, ranked 40th in the rankings, had been trying to become the first unseeded champion since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001 but had no answer to Djokovic’s experience.
