Must win Match as Bayern Munich take on Union Berlin
FC Bayern Munich take on Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena. The last time these two teams met, it was a high goal scoring match. Bundesliga giants won it 5-2.
Previous Match Analysis
Bayern Munich talisman Robert Lewandowski was on the score sheet twice.
He converted from the penalty spot after Paul Jaeckel was penalised for a hand ball in the penalty area.
The Polish forward then scored again when Joshua Kimmich rolled the ball to Thomas Muller for Lewandowski to strike.
Leroy Sane then added a third to take the match away from Union Berlin. Thomas Muller got enough of the ball on the stretch for Sane to tap in at the far post.
Union Berlin leftback Niko Geiselmann got one back for the home side. The cross came all the way to the Union defender. His shot was powerful enough to beat Manuel Neuer and score.
In the second half, the home team started on the front foot and had majority of the attacking threat. But, as a result they were short at the back and Kingsley Coman took advantage of this to restore the 3 goal advantage for the visitors.
Though the lead was cut down to 2 shortly with Julian Ryerson put the ball past Manuel Neuer and into the net.
Dayot Upamecano then went on an adventurous run and smartly set up Thomas Muller who sublimely curled a shot past a helpless Andreas Luthe. The German football star had 3 assists and a goal to show for his outstanding outing.
Preview
Both teams aren’t in top form as they drew their previous match. Union Berlin had a draw against 16th placed VFB Stuttgart and league leaders FC Bayern Munich drew against 6th placed TSG Hoffenheim.
With the previous match being an absorbing one, expect no less from this one too.
Injury Update
Bayern Munich have a few crucial players missing. Leon Goretzka and Alphonso Davies are long term absentees. They now have been joined by star defender Niklas Sule. Benjamin Pavard has been ruled out due to Covid.
Fortunately the Bavarian giants will have the services of Eric Choupo Moting and Robert Lewandowski who are set to be available.
As for Union Berlin, Grischa Promel misses out because he picked up his 5th Yellow Card against Stuttgart. Keita Endo has been ruled out of the trip to Munich. Moreover, there is a doubt cast over the availability of Genki Haraguchi and Levin Oztunali.
Both teams go into the match with depleted resources. But, it is a must win match for Bayern Munich as they cannot afford another slip up. Borussia Dortmund have closed the gap down to 4 points and anything else but a win would mean Dortmund can close the gap further.
Prediction
A high scoring counter is on the cards. We will have to wait and watch what the match has in store for us.
With Robert Lewnadowski back, we can expect a goal or two from him. Overall Bayern Munich though depleted would dominate as Union Berlin are not in top form.
Expect Bayern to come back with a bang after last weeks disappointing draw against TSG Hoffenheim.
I would go for a 3-1 win for Bayern Munich.
