Man United agree loan deal for Anthony Martial with Sevilla
Manchester United has agreed to let their French forward Anthony Martial go to Sevilla FC on loan in this transfer window. The Spanish side was looking to acquire the services of the Frenchman for a long period of time but the wage structure of the player was the main point preventing this move to take place.
Anthony Martial had made his position very clear to the Manchester United fans and to the club that he wanted to leave the club in the January transfer window either on a loan or on a permanent deal to another club. His poor run of form followed by an injury had led to the Frenchman getting little to no amount of game time in the past few months. However, current Man United interim manager Ralf Rangnick had made it clear that the 26 year old would only be allowed to leave the club as long as all the demands of the club are met. He also mentioned the conversation he had with the forward and said “He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else. I think in a way this is understandable, I could follow his thoughts, but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club.”
The club had demanded that 100 percent of the Frenchman’s salary would be covered by the other club which has reportedly been agreed to the liking of the Manchester club. With Martial’s contract not running up until 2024, it will be interesting to see how he manages to get into Rangnick’s starting 11 after the end of his loan spell in the summer. If not, then the forward could well be on his way to another club in the summer transfer window. His recent cameo in Man United’s Fergie time win against West Ham United was appraised by everyone around the club and the players were also seen to be very happy for their teammate who contributed to the build-up of the winning goal as well.
Martial was considered to be a top talent when he was signed by former United manager Louis Van Gaal from AS Monaco in 2015 and showcased his skill set in front of the Old Trafford crowd as well at times. However, the 26 year old has not lived up to his expectations and was not able to lift his game to the next level which requires consistent performances over a significant period of time. The United faithful will be hoping that he proves all of his critics wrong and find his form back during his spell in Spain. He hasn’t shown any kind of disrespect towards the club and the fans during this tough time and would surely love to come back to the club and hear his famous chant in the Theatre of Dreams.
