Lionel Messi Beats Out Robert Lewandowski To Win Record Seventh Ballon d’Or
Lionel Messi has beaten Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to the Ballon d’Or 2021 award. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star footballer finished up the Bayern Munich striker and Chelsea midfielder to seize the honor for the seventh time.
Many were expecting to see Lewandowski win the Men’s Ballon d’Or this year. But France Football considered Messi deserving the award. Jorginho was third on the podium after serving Chelsea and Italy win the Champions League and European Championship individually.

Lionel Messi was awarded his seventh Ballon d’Or trophy, while Robert Lewandowski was named Striker of the Year, a new prize possible built just for him due to the 2020 version being called off. Alexia Putellas was titled the Women’s Ballon d’Or winner, while Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled up the Yashin Trophy and Pedri won the Kopa Trophy for being the best player under the age of 21.
Messi accomplished the last version of the Ballon d’Or in 2019 before last year’s awards were called off due to the pandemic. He also won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and in 2015. The 34-year-old scored 38 goals in 48 games last season for the Barcelona club and won the Copa del Rey before being a skipper for Argentina to Copa America glory in July. That was the initial significant international title of his sparkling career, which had been filled completely with Barcelona before his teary exit from the Camp Nou in August and after his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
