KL Rahul is pleased with India’s depth of bowling
KL Rahul is pleased with India’s depth of bowling : India just needed 145 runs to win the game and the series 2-0, but the visitors ultimately prevailed in Dhaka by three wickets after a thrilling morning session of play.
India was defeated by Bangladesh in the previous 50-over series, but Bangladesh has never triumphed against India in a Test match. In the previous 12 Tests between the two sides, India had won 10 of them, including five by an innings.
The Stars :
Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin were lauded by acting India skipper KL Rahul after their tenacious 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket saved the visitors from defeat in the second and final Test by three wickets and secured a 2-0 series victory on Sunday.
Bangladesh seemed prepared to defeat its strong neighbours in their first-ever Test match but Iyer (29 not out off 46 balls) and Ashwin (42 not out off 62 balls) stopped them with an unbroken 71-run partnership on 105 balls.
KL Rahul told broadcasters in the post-match presentation ceremony,
“You just trust the guys in the middle. There’s always belief but there were nerves, we are human. But we trusted the batters out. Today, Ashwin and Shreyas did it with ease and style. Well done to them for earning India the win. We never thought it’d be a cakewalk, thought we need to grind and work hard for runs which Bangladesh did. It was tougher with the new ball. We lost more wickets than we’d have liked.”
Following India’s 2-0 series victory against Bangladesh in the Mirpur game, Rahul said that he was generally pleased with India’s depth of bowlers.
After Mehidy switched his bowling end, Ashwin, the game’s player of the match, brought India close with a six before Mehidy put an end to the encounter with two more boundaries.
Rahul concluded saying,
“We’ve made mistakes but will look to learn and hopefully put a better performance if a similar situation arises in the future. Happy with our bowling depth in the last 6-7 years. The series wins say a lot about how well we’ve groomed our pace attack. Ashwin and Axar have also done really well. Umesh put his hands up, Jaydev came in after a long time but bowled phenomenally well and probably deserved more wickets than he got. But the pressure helped Ashwin and Axar capitalise,”
Also, Shakib said,
“Both teams were really good. Credit goes to Shreyas and Ashwin, they absorbed the pressure well and built a partnership,”
