Jason Roy imposed with a £2,500 fine by the ECB

The England batsman has been imposed by the ECB and the reason of the ban is still not revealed though

England Cricketer Jason Roy has been stamped with a fine of £2,500 and also been handed a 12 month suspended ban by the ECB, who released a cryptic statement that raised a lot of unanswered questions among the people on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) – a body that hears disciplinary cases in the professional domestic game in England and Wales and operates “at arm’s length from the ECB” – announced the sanctions after Roy “admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute”.

Roy’s ban will be applied for his upcoming next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but has been “suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour”. He has to pay the imposed fine of £2,500 by March 31.

The statement made no mention of the action that resulted in Roy’s sanction, and, in a departure from standard protocol, the written reasons were not published in full.

In 2020, the CDC Regulations were amended to require that written reasons for a disciplinary panel’s findings be published in full on the ECB’s website “unless [the panel] determines for any reason that it is appropriate that they be published in part or not published at all.”

Roy resigned from his Rs. 2 crore (approx. £200,000) IPL contract with Gujarat Titans last month, citing a desire to “spend some quality time with my family” following his PSL stint with Quetta Gladiators.

His county, Surrey, had also announced that the player would be missing the early stages of their Championship season and had chosen to take “a short, indefinite break from the game”. Jason is currently on holiday with his family in the Maldives.

An England team spokesperson also chose to offer no comment.
