Ashleigh Barty: Winner of the Wimbledon retires at 25

World number 1 Ashleigh Barty announced her shock announcement via a video posted on instagram.

Ashleigh Barty is a 25 year old Australian tennis player who has retired from the game. It comes as a surprise to everyone as she is the current world number 1.

Many fans are unable to digest the fact that she has retired during her peak years. The tennis player is the current champion of the Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

She became the 1st Australian to win the Australian Open in nearly 44 years.

In a video posted on Instagram, she said that she “has given 100% and has nothing more to give physically”.

In the video she has mentioned, how she has achieved her dream of winning the Wimbledon and now wants to achieve other dreams she has.

“I wasn’t sure how to share this news with you so I asked my good friend [retired Australian tennis player Casey Dellacqua] to help me,” Barty said on Wednesday.

“I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I’ll always be grateful for the lifelong memories we created together.”

Barty added she was “absolutely spent” and “physically I have nothing more to give”.

Steve Simon shares his opinion on the retirement of the Australian.

He said “one of the great champions” and would be missed.

“Ashleigh Barty with her signature slice backhand, complemented by being the ultimate competitor, has always led by example through the unwavering professionalism and sportsmanship she brought to every match”

The Women’s Tennis Association Head respects the decision Ashleigh Barty has taken.

She knows many people would question her decision of retiring at this age, but she believes she has taken the right decision and her close ones have supported her through this.

Ashleigh Barty won her first grand slam at the French Open, 2019. She has been on top since then.

A fitting end to a great career as the Tennis superstar bows out.
