Indian Captain Mithali Raj Awarded With Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

Mithali Raj received the Khel Ratna from President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday. The Test and ODI team captain has committed the national award to her family.

The legendary Mithali Raj has been a famous name in women’s cricket and one of the recipients of the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for this year. The India captain has a two-decade-long remarkable career.

She is one of the only female Indian cricketers to have a long-lasting career of 22 years and still adding. Besides she is a cricketing model for all the young Indian ambitious women cricketers in India. She made her International debut for Indian on June 26, 1999.

That’s a long journey but the lively Mithali Raj continues to write success stories in women’s cricket. The Hyderabad cricketer, who holds a display full of awards and a bagful of records in women’s cricket, has been one of the 12 recipients of this year’s Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award. 

“This award will inspire many young girls to take up this wonderful sport which has given me so much,” said Mithali Raj, the game changer of Indian women’s cricket. “The Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is truly something special in my career and I am really grateful to each and everyone who has supported me over the years,” said Mithali Raj.

The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award is given for the magnificent and most distinguished achievement in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of the previous four years. President Ram Nath Kovind gave away the National Sports Awards 2021 on Saturday at a specifically organized gathering at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
