India women cruise to a victory against Bangladesh women
A crucial tie as India women try to stay in the top 4 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.
India women took on Bangladesh women in a must win encounter at Hamilton in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. India needed nothing but a win to stay in contention.
Mithali Raj(India womens team captain) won the toss and decided to bat first.
India got off to a good start with both openers looking solid. They bought up their 50 run stand too. Smriti Mandhana then fell to Nahida Akhter.
Suddenly India were looking a bit shaky as they lost 3 wickets in the span of 5 balls. Mithali Raj and Shafali Verma both got out on consecutive deliveries to Ritu Moni.
Yashkia Bhatia though alongside Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar steadied the innings.
She went on to score a wonderful half century before falling to Bangladesh’s destructor in chief Ritu Moni.
Pooja Vastrakar who was unbeaten at the end,made sure that India reached a defendable target of 229.
This target was easily defended as Bangladesh’s top order collapsed to 35/5 after within 20 overs. There was no recovering from that.
Bangladesh women tried their best but only managed to get to 119 before being bowled out.
India showed its bowling strength as all 5 bowlers used, took atleast 1 wicket.
Sneh Rana spun a web around the Bangladeshi batters as she ended up with the figures – 4/30 in her 10 overs.
Yastika Bhatia was adjudged as the player of the match for her knock of 50 that helped India a lot.
India now take on South Africa in a bid to qualify for the top 4, whereas Bangladesh face a tough ask when they face an in form Australia on Friday.
Tomorrow is a day off in the ICC Women’s world cup.
Action resumes on 24th March as South Africa meet West Indies and defending champions England take on Pakistan.
