IND vs BAN Day 3 : India gave Bangladesh a 513-run goal!
IND vs BAN Day 3 :
In the third day of the first test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here, Shubhman Gill’s first-ever Test century and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 19th Test century enabled India set a 513-run goal for Bangladesh. At the time of the end, the hosts had 42 for no loss.
Resuming the post-tea session at 140/1 Shubman Without wasting any time, Gill went on to record his first Test century, helping India surpass the 150-run threshold. A 100-run partnership for the second wicket was also achieved by the team of Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara went on to achieve his half-century in 87 balls with the aid of four boundaries.
In just 130 balls, Pujara changed gears and scored his 19th Test century. After January 2019, this was the Saurashtra lad’s first game. India continued and declared victory at 258/2, giving the hosts a daunting 513-run target.
In response, Bangladesh put up a solid fight as well, scoring 42 runs in the first innings thanks to openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan.
After play resumed on the third day, India bowled out Bangladesh for 150, picking up the final two wickets in a little period of time. The best Indian bowler, Kuldeep Yadav, scooped up five wickets while only giving up 40 runs.
India got off to a strong start and didn’t drop a wicket till lunch. Rahul appeared to be the more fluid of the two openers, so the Indians were cautious in their limited time at the bat before they left for lunch. Despite being ruled out, Gill used DRS to retain his wicket. As they led India to 36 runs at lunchtime without suffering a loss, the pair kept an eye on the spinners.
After lunch, India’s batting was resumed, with Gill and skipper KL Rahul both scoring 20 runs. Gill increased the scoring pace and had tremendous determination from the minute he came to bat in the second session, attacking the Bangladeshi bowlers. However, India lost Rahul to pacer Khaled Ahmed when he had scored 23 runs and India’s total was 70.
Khaled adopted the strategy of bowling excellently at the batter’s ribs with short balls that swung around the wicket and tucked him. Rahul attempted to retaliate but was stopped at the last second. As they continued to play their strokes to a feeble attack that was unable to employ Shakin Al Hasan as a bowler and had Ebadot Hossain off the field, Pujara joined Gill in extending the host’s problems.
As India attempted to create a lofty goal for the hosts, both batsmen gave the inning some much-needed impetus. Despite the pitch’s irregular bounce and spin, Bangladesh ran out of gas in the second session as both Pujara and Gill countered the bowlers.
India finished the second session at 140/1 and had a 394-run lead over Bangladesh. Before India began batting on the third day of the first test, Kuldeep Yadav claimed his third wicket to bowl out Bangladesh for 150.
As the men in blue stepped out to bat for their second inning after knocking Bangladesh out, acting captain KL Rahul made the decision not to enforce the follow-on.
