Galatasaray draw against Barcelona while Rangers dominate Red Star Belgrade
Spanish giants FC Barcelona have conceded a surprising draw against Turkish club Galatasaray in the Camp Nou Stadium in their last 16 first leg tie in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. Galatasaray would be going into the second leg with some hard-earned confidence as they managed to get a goalless draw at the home of the Spanish club. Elsewhere, Scottish club Rangers thumped Red Star Belgrade in their last 16 ties which have put the club into pole position for the quarter-finals.
Barcelona will be disappointed to concede a draw at their home in Europe’s second-tier club tournament and will have to give their best in order to get the better of Galatasaray when they will make the trip to Turkey. The away side almost had the victory in their bags when Bafetimbi Gomis scored a goal only to be ruled out for offside by the VAR later on.
“The feeling is bad. It’s not a good result, playing at home and dominating so much. This is Europe, even if it’s the Europa League, and teams are there on their own merits.”
said Barcelona Manager Xavi
Ranger would be delighted by their performance against the Red Star Belgrade as well as they have taken a huge step towards the quarter-finals and will look to defend their 3 goal lead in the second leg as well.
“It’s an unbelievable achievement. We are only halfway there but the boys were brilliant. We really managed it well and we’ve put ourselves in a good position. We can’t be complacent, though and we’ll go in there like it’s 0-0.”
Rangers captain Tavernier expressed his delight at the win
