Faf du Plessis strengthens the RCB’s batting line-up: Sanjay Bangar
After the IPL 2022 mega auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Sanjay Bangar was pleased with his team’s entire lineup. Bangar stated that the additions of former South African batsman Faf du Plessis, Australia bowler Josh Hazlewood, and seasoned wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik had given the batting department “genuine strength.”
RCB signed IPL 2021 Purple cap holder Harshal Patel (Rs 10.75 crore), Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 10.75 crore), Hazlewood (Rs 7.75 crore), and Faf du Plessis (Rs 7 crore) as the team’s top purchase in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction 2022.
Putting together a balanced team at the auctions has been quite satisfying for us. “Our objective was to deliver consistency while still having variances due to the shifting scenarios in a T20 event,” Bangar explained in an RCB release.
“We sought to have a strong role for each player we chose, as well as several back-ups in the same shape.” We have assembled a talented group of players from both international and domestic cricket.
“The arrival of Faf du Plessis strengthens the batting lineup significantly. He is a tried-and-true performer, a seasoned campaigner who has delivered at the top levels. We were seeking someone to cement our top order, and his addition to the club does exactly that. His extensive experience playing across forms provides us with alternatives, not just in terms of expanding the batting line, but also in terms of leadership “Bangar said.
“Wanindu Hasaranga is a wrist spinning all-rounder who can bat at 7, and we were seeking for a decent leggie with spin.” The fact that he can also contribute with the bat is a huge plus. We needed a good No. 6 and a finisher, which Dinesh Karthik provided. Harshal Patel performed admirably last season and was an obvious option for us to go the extra mile on the bid.
