England Creates History : England Vs Pakistan
England Creates History : After 22 years, England wins a historic Test series on Pakistan soil.
Given the competition and unfamiliar surroundings, this is the first time they have won two games in a row. It is also their most convincing victory on the subcontinent.
Ben Stokes’s Achievement:
As the only England captain to have won a Test series in Pakistan, Stokes joins Nasser Hussain and Ted Dexter in that status. Ben Stokes remained calm and patient while relying on his bowlers to win the match, not sure if it was because of his twisted left knee or to see if his team could win without him!
Since inheriting the captaincy at the beginning of the summer, Stokes has also won eight out of nine Test matches. Much if such success would be enough for celebration on its own, the fantastic performance of this team makes it even more remarkable.
Pakistan’s Batting :
Given their tail, they needed a sizable partnership from their first two wickets today when 157 was required to have a chance. With 80 runs contributed by Shakeel and Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan had five wickets remaining and the game was in their favour when 85 runs were required.
Stokes sent all of his bowlers at Shakeel and Nawaz in an attempt to use the new ball, but to no avail. Before lunch, he offered Wood one more chance. Pope clung on as Nawaz gloved a catch down the side of the leg.
A disputed choice that has since sparked discussion on social media resulted in the dismissal of Saud Shakeel.
Wood’s Magical Spell:
But Pakistan’s ambitions of chasing down 355 were dashed by a superb bowling performance from Mark Wood, whose four wickets turned the tide of this game dramatically in his team’s favour.
Achievement :
England has only successfully won two Test matches in Pakistan before the onset of this trip. Now, they have more than doubled that total in just two weeks to win the series, maintaining the team’s huge turnaround under Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.
Even though England has won the series with 2-0, one more match is yet to happen.
