Delhi Capitals Overhauls Coaching Staff for IPL 2025
The Delhi Capitals are poised for a significant overhaul of their support staff, with Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, and Munaf Patel expected to join the DC coaching team.
These seasoned professionals will replace Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, and James Hopes for the upcoming IPL seasons. Venugopal Rao will be the Director of Cricket, while Hemang Badani will serve as the Head Coach for the next two years. Munaf Patel, a former Indian fast bowler, will become the franchise’s Bowling Coach.
Though Sourav Ganguly is stepping down from his IPL duties, he will continue to play a pivotal role for the Delhi Capitals in the WPL and with the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 tournament. Venugopal Rao and Hemang Badani are no strangers to the Capitals’ global franchises, having worked with teams like India Capitals in Legends League Cricket, Dubai Capitals in ILT20, and Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket, all of which are owned by the GMR Group.
In addition to the coaching changes, the Delhi Capitals have solidified their core lineup. They are set to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction at 18 Cr, 14 Cr, and 11 Cr, respectively. The official retention deadline is set for October 31, 2024.
