Daniil Medvedev might miss out on playing at Wimbledon
Daniil Medvedev the world Number 1 has been informed by Nigel Huddleston that he will not be allowed to play at the Wimbledon, unless he distances himself from Vladimir Putin.
Nigel Huddleston the UK Sports Minister believes that no athletes should have any connections with Vladimir Putin. If they do so, strict action should be taken against them.
As a result, Daniil Medvedev faces a dilemma – whether stay in connection with Putin and not play the Wimbledon or disavow Putin and play as a neutral.
Acc to the WTA guidelines, Russian athletes can continue to play in the tournaments as a neutral. They would not be allowed to compete with the Russian flag.
Many athletes risk being banned in their fields if they do not adhere to the conditions put forth by the authorities.
Many countries are on the side of UK saying they would not allow athletes to enter the country unless they follow the guidelines set.
As of yet Daniil Medvedev has asked for world peace but not criticized the Russian invasion. He is yet to disavow his links with Putin and as a result faces a ban from the Wimbledon.
Andrey Rublev, Aslan Karatsev and Karen Khachanov face a similar issue. Either they disavow Putin or get banned from representing at the Wimbledon.
We will have to wait and see what decision the players take during this dilemma.
