Daniil Medvedev is the new World No. 1
Daniel Medvedev is the world’s No. 1 on Thursdays, but the Russian star admitted it was difficult to concentrate on tennis while hearing about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Medvedev defeated Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the Mexican Open quarterfinals, advancing to the semi-finals against Rafael Nadal of Australia. Medvedev was confirmed as the Novak Djokovic lost his quarter-final match in Dubai on Friday, dropping him to No. 1.
It is the first time another man other than Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, or Murray has been ranked No 1 in tennis.
Medvedev, on the other hand, took time to address the issue, stating that he wants to see people come together and that he supports peace.
Following a “rollercoaster” day in which he was named the world’s number one tennis player and his nation invaded Ukraine, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said he wants to promote peace across the world.
The Russian tennis player stated that his goal as a player is to promote peace across the globe after winning in the quarterfinals in Acapulco.
“We perform in a various nation. As a youngster and a professional, I’ve been to many different nations. It’s difficult to take in all this information. Peace is something I strongly believe in.”
