Cricket to be back after 8 years In Asian Games
Asian Games is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. Asian Games started in 1951 and was held in New Delhi. Over 489 athletes from 11 countries competing.
The Asian Games 2022 will start on September 10, 2022, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. There will be 40 sports played.
Two new sports are added to the Asian Games 2022. E-sports and breakdance are the two new sports added in Asian Games 2022 as they have been approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) this year.
This year Cricket will be back at Asian Games. Cricket was last played in the 2014 Asian Games. Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 68 runs and won the gold medal. After 8 years cricket is back in the Asian game. Cricket will be played in T20 format to raise the excitement of the viewers.
As a member of the South Asia Zone of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), India is one of the only seven nations to have participated in every Asian Games.
The Indian team has won at least one gold medal at every Asian Games and has usually finished in the top ten of the medal table, except in 1990. Till now India has won 139 golds, 178 Silver, and 299 bronze medals in the Asian Games.
The 19th Asian Games will feature more than 300 athletes from Oceania countries for the first time. Australia and New Zealand will have the opportunity to compete in five sports: triathlon, athletics, wushu, roller skating, and weightlifting.
The exclusive rights to host the 2022 Asian Games will be held between November 2021 and September 2023 by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN). As part of this agreement, SPN will be given exclusive rights to broadcast the 19th edition of the Asian Games across India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives. Sony LIV will also broadcast the tournament.
