As India regained control following early knocks, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer completed their individual half-centuries. Together, they have scored almost 90 runs for the fifth wicket so far. When Gill failed in his attempt to premeditatedly sweep Taijul with a paddle, he was furious with himself for having wasted a promising beginning. Similar to Rahul, Khaled Ahmed tempted him in with some width and Rahul too was disappointed with himself after drawing an inside edge onto his stumps.

Virat Kohli was then startled and caught in front of him by a fast spin from Taijul. After lengthy discussions with the non-striker, the former captain of India evaluated the situation, but to no avail. Within six overs, India had fallen to 48 for 3 from a relatively secure 41 without loss.
