BCCI announces squad for the series against West Indies
Rohit Sharma who missed the series against South Africa is now recovered from the injury and will join the squad. Rohit Sharma passed the fitness test and is all set to lead the Indian team in an upcoming home series against West Indies. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian side for the first time as full-time captain.
On Wednesday BCCI announced 18 member squads for the upcoming series against West Indies. The series will be held in two venues. The series will start on 6th February 2022.
The three-match ODI series will be played in Ahmedabad at Narendra Modi Stadium. While the T20 series will be played in Kolkata at Eden Gardens Stadium.
The ODI team of India seems to have some changes as Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been dropped by the team after a poor performance in the ODI series against South Africa. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav has returned to the ODI team. Due to injury and knee surgery, Kuldeep Yadav hasn’t played any competitive cricket for the last six months. Ravichandra Ashwin has been left out of the squad.
The 21-year-old leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi gets a maiden call for the upcoming series against West Indies. He will join Chahal, Kuldeep, and Washington Sundar. Deepak Hooda also gets a maiden call for the ODI series. Venkatesh Iyer misses his place in the ODI squad.
According to BCCI, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami both have been rested for the series. While KL Rahul who captained India in the ODI series against South Africa will be available from the 2nd ODI. Axar Patel will join the Indian team from the T20 series. Ravindra Jadeja will miss ODI as well as the T20 series against the West Indies as he is in the recovery stage of his knee injury.
Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will lead the fast-Bowling department. Mohammed Siraj Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan will accompany them.
