Happy Birthday Virat Kohli: Honoring the Milestones of India’s Batting
BCB has rested Shakib Al Hasan from all forms of cricket
In upcoming South Africa series, Shakib Al Hasan won’t be able to participate because of “mental stress” and “fatigue,” forcing him to take a month off. The 34-year-old was initially appointed to the ODI and Test squads for the South Africa tour despite not being selected by any of the IPL franchises. In a recent series against Afghanistan, Al Hasan admitted that he felt like he was a “passenger” in the Bangladeshi team. The BCB has decided Al Hasan will get a break from cricket. He scored 74 runs and took seven wickets across three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty-20 Internationals.
He’s fatigued both physically and psychologically. The BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Jalal Yunus, told reporters on Wednesday that Yunus is no longer enjoying cricket in any form.
He always maintained that he was not enjoying himself, that he was unfit, and that he was not prepared. We have decided to give him a break from all types of cricket until April 30 since he is’ mentally weary and physically stressed. ‘ We have discussed this with the CEO and the president. Due to his nearly two-month layoff, Shakib will skip the Dhaka Premier League, where he was set to play for Mohammedan Sporting.
Shakib is a versatile player who plays a vital role for us. We have the World Cup coming up, and we want him to play in one more important series. If a player wants to skip and not enjoy himself, we want to offer him complete relaxation and time with his family. On Sunday, Shakib said that he was worried and neither physically or emotionally prepared to play in the South Africa series, while Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan questioned his commitment.
Shakib had withdrawn from the New Zealand Test series last month, but the premier all-rounder has appeared in 15 of Bangladesh’s 33 Tests since 2017.
