Arif Khan Qualifies For Winter Olympics
India’s alpine skier Arif Mohammad Khan has become the first-ever Indian athlete from the nation to qualify for two separate events of the Winter Olympics to be played in Beijing from February 4-20 next year. Khan, 31, on Wednesday, secured a 2022 Winter Olympics quota place in the men’s giant slalom event. Last month, he booked an allocation in the slalom tournament meet in Dubai.
Arif Mohammad Khan, who comes from J&K, attained his huge slalom clipped throughout the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) event held in Kolasin, Montenegro.
Significantly, only two Indian athletes have represented India in Winter Games -Jagdish Singh (cross-country skiing) and Shiv Keshavan (luge) in the year 2018, but so far this year, only Arif is the only name who was successful to qualified for the 2022 Winter Games.
The Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, China from February 4 to 20 next year. Arif from Kashmir’s Hajibal Tanmarg region had seized the first class ticket for these games at a qualifying tournament held in Dubai a prior month. After sealing his first ever Winter Olympics event in the alpine skiing slalom category at the Olympic Qualifiers in Dubai, Khan has now accomplish the golden achievement by qualifying for another event at the giant slalom.
