After 0-3 Whitewash, BCCI Reviews Gambhir’s Strategies for the Indian Cricket Team
The Indian cricket team is under heavy criticism after suffering a 0-3 whitewash in the recent Test series against New Zealand. The Rohit Sharma-led squad was thoroughly outplayed by the visiting Kiwis, leading to questions around head coach Gautam Gambhir’s strategies. This disappointing series has put Gambhir in a challenging position only three months into his role.
According to reports, the BCCI plans to review the defeat closely, with particular focus on the pitches in Pune and Mumbai. Under former head coach Rahul Dravid, India had moved away from preparing rank turners for home Tests. However, Gambhir reportedly reintroduced the tactic, despite objections from some within the management. This decision surprised some in the BCCI, as India’s reliance on rank turners backfired, leading to losses in both matches.
Gambhir’s tenure has seen back-to-back series losses, including a historic ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka after 27 years, followed by this 3-0 Test defeat against New Zealand. His appointment as head coach was met with high expectations, and he was even included in selection discussions for the upcoming Australia tour. However, unless there is a significant improvement, Gambhir’s influence on team decisions could diminish.
The BCCI is expected to discuss the new support staff’s vision under Gambhir, seeking clarity on their plans to strengthen the team moving forward.
