Wimbledon 2022 : Pair Sania Mirza- Mate Pavic reaches mixed doubles quarterfinals
Wimbledon 2022 : Indian women’s tennis star Sania Mirza has reached the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles of Wimbledon tennis tournament. Earlier she had to face defeat in women’s doubles.
Sania Mirza-Matt Pavic’s pair of players from India and Croatian pair reached the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. The sixth seeded pair of Sania and Pavic got a walkover from Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan in their second round match.
Sania and Pavic had defeated Spain’s David Vega Hernandez and Georgia’s Natela Dzalamidze 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, the pair will face the Brazilian pair of Bruno Soares and Beatriz Haddad Maia or the Australian-Canadian pair of John Peers and Gabriela Dabrowski.
Sania has already announced that this is the last season of her career. In women’s doubles, she lost to Czech Republic partner Lucie Hradecka in the opening round.
In women’s singles, Tatjana Maria saved two match points in the second set and defeated 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the age of 34.
Maria, who is ranked 103rd in the world rankings, won 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 in a close contest. The German player is now the oldest woman in a singles draw. She saved match points twice after going 5-4 in the second set against Ostapenko and then won the set by overtaking the Latvian player.
