WI vs NZ 2nd ODI :New Zealand beat hosts West Indies by 50 runs (D/L) in the rain-interrupted second ODI. With this victory, the Kiwi team leveled the 3 ODI series 1-1. West Indies won the first ODI at Bridgetown by 5 wickets. Batting first, New Zealand scored 212 runs in 48.2 overs in the second ODI.
Finn Allen scored 96 runs for New Zealand. This is his best score in ODIs. Apart from him, Daryl Mitchell scored 41 runs. No other batsman could make a big score. West Indies got a target of 212 runs in 41 overs due to rain. Chasing this, the West Indies team could only score 161 runs in 35.3 overs and lost the match by 50 runs.
West Indies’ defeat could have been bigger. Chasing the target of 212 runs, the Caribbean team had lost 8 wickets for 72 runs at one time. The defeat seemed close. But, playing his second ODI, leg break bowler Yannick Kariah batted brilliantly.
Together with Alzarri Joseph, he added 85 runs in just 64 balls for the 9th wicket. But, Joseph got out on the score of 157 runs. He missed his half-century by 1 run. He scored 49 runs in 31 balls at a strike rate of 158. Joseph hit 5 fours and 2 sixes.
After Joseph’s dismissal, Kariyah also returned to the pavilion in the very next over. He scored 52 runs in 84 balls. With this the West Indies innings came to an end on the score of 161 runs.
