Former Indian cricketer Anjum Chopra considered that the Women’s IPL is, well and really, on the boards. However, she also said that “a structured plan” is required to take ahead proceedings and the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t made things simpler for the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Throughout a conversation with Hindustan Times, the 44-year-old stated that the idea is in a “very exciting stage” currently and believes that the Indian cricket board “needs to lead the way”. Presently, the BCCI had declared a four-team Women’s T20 Challenge for last season but it was cancelled awaited to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Anjum Chopra said that the board will need a plan of action that will make this small tournament a breakthrough. With Harmanpreet Kaur winning the Player of the Tournament in the Women’s Big Bash League, the calls for women’s Indian Super League have heightened in India. While speaking to Hindustan Times, Anjum Chopra informed that BCCI has revealed its plan to establish a women’s IPL tournament, but there are some other problems that the committee requires to deal with first.
The WT20C began as a one-off display match in 2018 before growing as a three-team, four-match event in the next two years. It has also been given an official T20 status.
Following their participation in the Women’s Big Bash League, women’s cricket in India has strongly hooked a brand-new high. And if that wasn’t sufficient, the fact that most of the players returned an awesome show in the event adds to it. As many as eight Indian members have retreated home, having increased from the rich background of playing in one of the biggest franchise T20 cricket leagues in the world, and leading the way was Harmanpreet Kaur emerged as the biggest star, winning the Player of the Tournament honour following her all-round charisma for the Melbourne Renegades.
