New Zealand Names Squad for India Test Series: Williamson Injured,
Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the India T20I series.
After failing to recover from Covid-19, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against India. Hasaranga was diagnosed with Covid-19 during the Australia series a week ago, and he tested positive in the most recent test as well.
Hasaranga was one of three players of Sri Lanka’s visiting squad in Australia to test positive after the instances of Kusal Mendis and Binura Fernando, and he did not play in the final three games of the five-match series, which Sri Lanka lost 1-4. In those games, he had numbers of 3/38 and 2/33.
In the IPL 2022 mega auction Hasaranga was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 10.75 crore. Which made Hasaranga is the most expensive Sri Lanka player in the IPL history.
When India travelled to Sri Lanka in July last year for a limited-overs series, the 24-year-old all-rounder made an impact, particularly with the ball, with a three-for in the second ODI and seven wickets – including a 4 for 9 – to lead the bowling charts in the three T20Is. Hasaranga finished that series ranked second among T20I bowlers in the ICC rankings.
Sri Lanka will play three Twenty20 Internationals against India, followed by two Test matches, beginning with the first T20I on February 24 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. The following two Twenty20 Internationals will be played at Dharmshala on February 26 and 27, before the first Test in Mohali, followed by a Day-night Test in Bengaluru.
