Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test at Mohali.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a change in schedule for Team India’s next red-ball assignment against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, with Virat Kohli poised to play his 100th Test match at Mohali. According to the supreme cricket board’s amended schedule, hosts India will play a three-match T20I series against previous world champions Sri Lanka. The Indian team will then face the Asian titans in a two-match Test series.
Team India will face Sri Lanka in five international matches. Instead of competing in the bilateral two-Test drama in India’s backyard, the Islanders will first compete in the T20I series. The opening T20I of the three-match series will be played on February 24th at Lucknow. Dharamsala will host the second T20I (February 26) and the third T20I (February 27) between India and Sri Lanka.
The BCCI’s updated schedule confirms that the first Test series will be played in Mohali from March 4th to March 8th. The match between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali will be Kohli’s 100th Test for the ICC World Test Championship runners-up. The second Test will be held in Bengaluru from March 12th to March 16th. The last red-ball series encounter between India and Sri Lanka will be a Day and Night Test.
Kohli, regarded as one of the best batsmen of the modern era, stood down as India’s Test captain during the South Africa trip. In the international arena, the 33-year-old has not struck a century in more than two years. Kohli’s last Test century for Team India was against Bangladesh in a pink-ball encounter at Eden Gardens.
