England have booked their place in the ICC U19 World Cup semi finals after beating South Africa by six wickets. They are the first team to qualify for the semi finals in this year’s tournament and have set up a clash with either Sri Lanka or Afghanistan.
The English fans got to witness a scintillating batting display by Jacob Bethell who made a very good 88 against the Proteas. He also helped in restricting South Africa to 209 with his bowling performance and earned himself a Man of the Match award as well. The South African team was not able to get a good start after they won the toss and chose to bat first. The boundaries were not coming as fast as they expected them with the team’s first boundary coming on the last ball of the fourth over.
In the other plate quarter-final ties, Zimbabwe had set up a healthy target of 249 for the Scotland team who failed to build any partnership and eventually were all out for just 140. Zimbabwe will now face Ireland in their next game.
The other teams will be joined by the hosts West Indies who have also booked their place by beating Papa New Guinea by a massive 169 runs. They will face the United Arab Emirates in their next game, while Papa New Guinea will take on Uganda in their plate playoffs
