India opener KL Rahul was on Tuesday ruled out of the two-Test series against New Zealand due to a muscle strain in his left thigh, a development which is likely to open up a debut opportunity for youngsters either Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul has been seconded from the forthcoming two-Test series against New Zealand with a strain in his left thigh. He will now experience rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, and Suryakumar Yadav has joined the squad in his place, two days out from the start of the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur.
The opening Test against New Zealand is scheduled to start in Kanpur on Thursday. “Team India batsman KL Rahul has sustained a muscle strain on his left thigh and has been ruled out of the upcoming 2-match Paytm Test series against New Zealand,” BCCI said in a statement. He was a member of the Test squad in England as well earlier this year. India will now be without star players like Rohit and Virat Kohli for the opening Test with Ajinkya Rahane leading the Indian side. Kohli will return to lead the team in the second Test in Mumbai that begins on December 3.
