The Premier League suspends Russian partner broadcasting deal
The Premier League has announced that they have decided to suspend their deal with their Russian television partners Rambler (Okko Sport) as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to affect many lives. The shareholders meeting which took place on Tuesday decided that the league is against the current war scenarios posed by Russia and are in full support of Ukraine. The Premier League have also decided to donate a total of $1.3 Million to the people who are affected by the war.
The official statement by the English Premier league read as follows:
“The Premier League and its clubs today unanimously agreed to suspend our agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate £1 million to support the people of Ukraine. The league strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those impacted.”
Many sporting bodies around the world have voiced their opinion on the situation and have suspended contacts with any Russian links. The Premier League have also designed a new version of their logo which includes the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
